It is possible to send text messages with your Iridium 9575 satellite phone. The text message also includes a link to an online map so people back home can see your location.

With the built-in GPS receiver in the Iridium 9575 satellite phone, you can see your exact position / location at a glance. You can text or email your location to any address directly from your phone. This makes the Iridium 9575 satellite phone a powerful security tool.

SOS button: with a single button press, you can quickly and easily send a personal emergency call to one or more people via email or text message. The message also includes your GPS location. If you wish, the SOS button can simultaneously make a phone call to a number of your choosing.

Extreme weatherproof: a number of Iridium customers have reported that the Iridium 9575 is waterproof up to 10 feet deep! That is unfortunately neit true, but the Iridium 9575 EXTREME satellite phone is remarkably weatherproof and has an IP65 ingress rating. With the weatherproof materials in place, the phone passed a highly aggressive liquid test where water jets were projected from a 6.3 mm nozzle against the outside of the phone. With no harmful effects! And that during a 3-minute exposure to 12.5 liters per minute. Unfortunately, the Iridium 9575 satellite phone is not waterproof, but Outfitter Satellite offers waterproof protection if necessary.

Can leave a breadcrumb trail: With a few simple adjustments to the default settings, it is possible to configure your Iridium 9575 satellite phone to automatically send your GPS position at simultaneous time intervals. This can be very useful if possible rescuers are doing their best to find you (while time ticks on) if you may have "disappeared" in the wilderness. This will reassure the home front. Professional web-based tracking services may be available for more advanced tracking applications.

Optional AxcessPoint Hotspot allows you to receive and send email from your PC, Mac, iPhone, Android smartphone or Blackberry. The software included with the AxcessPoint makes it (also) possible to browse the Internet, but at 2400 bps, web browsing requires a lot of patience.

Docking stations are available for indoor use or use below deck if an external mast antenna or low-profile car antenna is required.

Up to 4 hours of "talk time" or 30 hours of standby time available per charge. If desired, solar-powered rechargeable batteries are available.

Push-To-Talk (PTT) extension

.The (optional) Push-To-Talk (PTT) extension on the Iridium Extreme 9575 turns this satellite phone into a satellite walkie-talkie, which you can use worldwide to communicate -without additional call charges- with each other. There should always be at least 2 such devices with PTT function activated within a call group.

A call group can consist of several regions, distributed worldwide and can cover an area of 100,000 km2 or more. A PTT device can be made part of multiple call groups.

Using the Push-To-Talk (PTT) feature requires a subscription. This subscription is based on a fixed monthly fee, depending on the size of the area and region. For example, different rates apply to the Middle East than to other parts of the world. Additional call charges do NOT apply. See also:
