Which LNB can be used for what?

A LNB (Low Noise Block) is together with the satellite dish antenna part of the 'outside unit' and is an important part in the satellite reception system.

There are different type and btrands of LNB’s. These are the most commong used LNB’s:

  • Single LNB: has one output exit for a single satellite settop box with 1 DVB-S2 tuner;

  • Twin LNB: has two output exits for 2 satellite settop boxes with each 1 DVB-S2 tuner or a Twin settop box (with 2 DVB-S2 tuners);

  • Quad LNB: has 4 outpunt exits for a satellite settop box with 4 DVB-S2 tuners or for two Twin settop boxes or for four settop boxes with each 1 DVB-S2 tuner;

  • Quatro LNB: has 4 output exits, but these are divided into 4 quadrants of the satellite frequency range. Is only to be used in combination with a multiswitch!

  • Octo LNB: has 8 output exits for 8 single satellite settop boxes with each 1 DVB-S2 tuner or for 2 Quad settop boxes or for 4 Twin settop boxes.

A Monoblock is a LNB for the reception of mulitple satellites at the same time and is available in different versions. These are the most used LNB’s at this moment:

  • Duo LNB - 19.2º – 23.5º (4:3) or 13.0º and 19.2º (6): this type of LNB receives two satellites at the same time and is available in a Single, Twin and Quad version, i.e. with 1, 2 or 4 output exits. These LNB’s are suitable for satellite dish antenna with a diameter varying from 60 - 80 cm;

  • Triple LNB - 19.2º - 23.5º – 28.2º: this LNB receives three satellites and is available from the brands Canal Digital and Inverto. To be used in combination with a 60 or 80 cm satellite dish antenna. Only available in Quad version;

  • Triple LNB 13.0º – 16.0º – 19.2º: this Single Inverto LNB is suitable for 70 till 90 cm satellite dish antennas;

  • Quad LNB - 9.0º – 13.0º – 19.2º – 23.5º: this Twin LNB of Inverto receives 4 satellites and is suitable for 70 till 90 cm satellite dish antennas. Remark: these LNB’s are not suitable for the Southern parts of Spain, Portugal and Italy. TheDishAntennaShop advises to use in these areas always seperate LNB's per satellite (in combination with a multifeed);

  • Unicable Quad LNB: a whole new technique and designed to meet the demand of having less cables around or in your house. With this type of LNB you have four output exits and only one cable that goes to the satellite receiver. Suitable for 4 4 single satellite receivers, two Twin satellite receivers or 1 satellite receiver with four DVB-S2 tuners. Only available for one satellite reception.
