4G / 5G internet solution installation at school in Brussels
4G / 5G internet solution installation at school in Brussels
Case description:
Current wired internet connection offers too low speed (max 25 Mb down). This is too low for the +/- 100 students to go online during lessons or during exams
Possible alternative solution explored by the school itself is the Starlink solution (internet via satellite)
No modifications may be made to the building (or immediate surroundings), so fibre optic is not an option
Signal range (with mobile phone) outside is fine
Implemented solution:
On the advice of DeSchotelShop, Starlink's internet solution was not chosen, as the maximum download speed is still too slow for the school's requirements
As there is fine mobile coverage outside (on the building roof), a 4G / 5G solution based on data SIM cards was chosen
As a solution, the choice was made to install an outdoor antenna (Peplink Mobility) on the roof of the building. Through existing openings, the necessary cables were laid inside and connected to the internal router (Peplink Max BR2 Pro router)
By inserting two data SIM cards of the mobile provider, the connection to the network of the respective provider is made. Using the 2 SIM cards, it is also possible to apply load balancing, so that a total bandwidth of +/- 500 MB of download speed is now available.
Via a wired connection / switch, the Peplink router is connected to the already existing network within the school, consisting of Access Points in the various classrooms and other rooms
