A satellite dish antenna switch is necessary when multiple dish antennas / satellites / LNB's need to be connected to one or more satellite receivers. The switch offers more flexibility around your satellite installation. With a multiswitch multiple satellite dish antennas and/or LNB's van be connected for a better reception and the reception of a  broader program (more channels). With a multiswitch the satellite signal can also be divided to multiple connections, i.e. in for instance various rooms or appartment buildings.

The switch can be installed at the same time as the satellite antenna, but it's no problem if the switch is added later on.
